  • IB is broader (Generalists) and A Levels is into specializations (Specialists)
  • My research so far says that IB is a more widely accepted degree internationally for university admissions
  • You are required to do community service in IB
  • In IB, you have to focus on languages
  • In IB, you have to mandatorily choose subjects from diverse pools of subjects. Cannot choose specializations in one particular area like all sciences
  • In IB, you have to write an essay to pass the two year degree
  • Beaconhouse is the only chain in Pakistan whose different branches are offering both IB & O/A Levels

The Debates

Teachers told not to promote A Levels

Universities shun A-levels for own admissions tests

King Edward’s School planning to scrap A-levels

Baccalaureate will lower sixth-form standards

If you visit the IB organization’s website, the only Pakistani IB school listed yet is The International School, Karachi which was launched 1996.

In Lahore, the following schools are planning the IB program

  1. International School of Choueifat http://www.isbi.com/istd-viewschool/4172-International_School_of_Choueifat,_Lahore.html
